About Me

Andrew Truong, the Golden Gate Rocket Labs, Senior at the Quarry Lane School

Hi there! I’m Andrew Truong, currently a senior at The Quarry Lane School in Dublin, California. I founded our school’s rocketry club in 2022—originally known as Golden Gate Rocket Labs—to ignite passion for STEM through rocket design, building, and launching.  In August 2025, we renamed our group QLS Rocketry Club while keeping the same mission, and we merged with the Astronomy Club.

Today, I’m proud to serve as an American Rocketry Challenge (ARC) mentor with the Livermore Unit of the National Association of Rocketry (Section 534). I also mentor my school’s rocketry team, where I guide students through hands-on learning and collaborative problem-solving. I’m fully dedicated to supporting students who want to learn and build rockets. Whether you’re in the Tri-Valley or greater Bay Area, I’d love to help you get started and guide your rocketry journey

With a lifelong passion for aerospace, I started this organization to inspire students to design, build, and launch rockets while gaining hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). I believe curiosity fuels innovation — and that students can lead, build, and achieve incredible things when given the opportunity.

Over the past three years, I’ve competed in the American Rocketry Challenge, the nation’s largest student rocketry competition. After years of hard work, collaboration, and learning from setbacks, our team qualified for the 2025 National Finals — a milestone that proved the power of persistence and student-driven engineering.

Since then, I’ve expanded my mission beyond my own team.  I  volunteer as a mentor, technical advisor, and coach to support other ARC teams in the Tri-Valley and Bay Area. I help students understand ARC rules, master rocket design and safety fundamentals, run simulations in OpenRocket, and develop the confidence to solve engineering challenges as a team.

Whether I’m launching high-powered rockets or mentoring new teams, my goal with Golden Gate Rocket Labs is to advance rocketry education, support student-led innovation, and inspire the next generation of aerospace pioneers — starting right here in our local schools and communities.
